1) Long, hot days allow for optimal drying time of certain materials. I truly hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

This is one of the few times of the year when I make a legitimate effort to take my mind off business. But, Memorial Day made me think of all the young men our country has lost in the course of battle…young men who have often truly not even begun to live. The real tragedy is that many of those young men never get to live out their life long dreams.

My Father was in the Air Force and he was telling us a few stories today about missions and men in his bomb group that got shot down and never returned home alive. How many times have you finished a pressure washing job and been proud of your work only to have your customer complain that the job wasn’t performed up to expectation? Many Power Cleaning business owners feel similar frustration when their hard work is dismissed by the customer.

In a management seminar last winter, I learned about the ‘rule-of-three’ and I would like to pass along a bit of the information. The rule-of-three states that you must ask a customer the same question (or a series of similar quesitons) three times before you can begin to feel confident that you have an understanding of the correct answer.

This rule applies very well to the Pressure Washing Business. Too often, customers are very vague with their descriptions of the work to be performed. Without proper knowledge of the exactly what the customer wants, you are left guessing at the exact nature of the work to be done.

Miscommunication leads to mispriced work and mismatched expectations. Bad communication is bad for business.
