Pressure Washing As A Summertime Job

In yesterday’s blog posting about the top 10 reasons to start a pressure washing business, we spoke about low startup costs.

You don’t need a ton of money to start a small pressure washing business.   Because of this low bar of entry, it is relatively easy to do pressure washing as a part-time business this summer.  The key to being successful, though, is to start early.  It’s March right now and homeowners are thinking about spring cleaning and sprucing up their properties.  Decks need cleaning and resealing, patios need cleaning, outdoor steps need the crud washed off them, gutters need to be sprayed out and cleaned, houses need to be cleaned, industrial and construction vehicles need to washed down.  The list is endless and right now is the time for you to go after all this business.  If you wait around and miss the spring cleanup flood of customers, you may be missing one of the most important times of the year for a new pressure washing business.

This isn’t to say that you can’t start your business later.  However, with a pressure washing business, marketing your services is better done sooner than later.

If you’re thinking about trying to make money this year with a pressure washing business, we encourage you to get started right away so you can be ready for the spring rush.

10 Reasons to Start A Pressure Washing Business

Have you ever wanted to start your own pressure washing business and make good money during the warmer months of the year?  Right now is a great time to get started.  Contracts are ready to be signed.  Customers are primed to hire you.  What’s holding you back.  Here are the top 10 reasons to start a pressure washing business right now.

1)  You can start with very little money – We are commonly asked if new businesses need to start with 10′s of thousands of dollars in brand new hi-tech industrial equipment.  The truth is, you may eventually want to grow your business to the level where you need a trailer full of tanks and hot water pressure washers.  However, you don’t have to start there.  You can really get stared with a mid-level pressure washer, a good wand, tips, your safety gear, and little else.  In our Pressure Washing Business manuals we’ll show you the equipment to get without spending a fortune.

2)  Set your own hours to work – The beauty of owning your own Pressure Washing Business is that you can set your own hours.  If you only want a few customers each week you can just take on as many as you are comfortable with.  However, if you want a full roster you should advertise aggressively until you get as many customers as you can handle.  It’s not just the quantity you should worry about though.  We show you how to get QUALITY customers.  A lot of guys who are new to the business don’t know how to go after the quality customers.  Don’t worry, we’ll show you how.

3)  Unlimited Income – Listen, we’re not selling a “GET RICH QUICK” manual here.  Anyone that says you can get rich running a pressure washer without doing much work is probably not being straight with you.  Pressure washing can be physical work.  But, if you work hard and work smart you can make really good money.  As you grow your business and add additional employees, your income growth can be virtually unlimited.

4)  Work only the jobs you want – We recommend that you start small doing jobs you are comfortable with.  There are some technicalities in doing pressure washing.  The beauty of being your own boss is that you can turn down jobs you don’t want to do and focus on the jobs you’re really comfortable with and the ones that bring in the best money.

5)  You get to buy equipment – I love toys…really toys…mechanical toys.  Owning a pressure washing business allows you to buy all sorts of toys.  Pumps, wands, nozzles, sprayers…the list goes on.  If you’re mechanically it will be always be a “blast” getting to operate this business.

6)  Work all year or only during the warm months.  If you live in Florida or other warm states, you will likely be able to operate your pressure washing business all year-round.  There is nothing better than working in the sunshine outdoors enjoying nature.  Giving estimates is fun because you roll up in your truck or van with your shorts on to give the estimate and you will be thinking about all the people sitting behind their desks in some stuffy office.  If you’re in a cooler state or in a far north state, making money during the winter might be curtailed by inclement weather.  However, in our pressure washing business manuals we give you some great tips to help you make money year-round.

7)  Work outside and get strong - Though I mentioned above how you can drive to your jobs in your shorts, you will need to suit up in your safety gear to do the actual work.  Still, you will be working outside running the surface cleaners or the wand.  Doing this work is a great way to stay fit, shape up, and get strong.  Why pay for a fitness club when you can be doing work that is fun exercise?

8)  Build stature in your community – As word gets around that you own your own pressure washing business, you will be surprised how many new and interesting people you will meet.  We show you how to bid on many contracts in your community.  Bidding these contracts allows you to speak with the movers and shakers.  As your name gets known, they will seek you out asking you to bid on upcoming pressure washing jobs.

9)  Work out of your house – Though you will have to leave your house to give estimates and perform the actual pressure washing work, much of your efforts can be performed at home.  Making phone calls, setting up appointments, and doing your advertising and paperwork can be done from a home office.  In most areas, it is perfectly legal to operate a pressure washing business from your home provided you follow a few guidelines.

10)  Abundant supply of long term customers – Each and every day there are new sub-divisions being build full of houses and there are businesses with glass storefronts and sidewalks and….  Look around.  Take a drive down your streets and just count the thousands of potential areas for customers to hire you for your pressure washing services.  The “Business Manual” section of our Pressure Washing Business program will show you how to get those customers.

If you’ve ever wanted to start your own pressure washing business, right now is a perfect time to start.
